JANUARY 2011 SAHELI-BOSTON NEWS UPDATE
Happy New Year to all Saheli members, volunteers and friends.
January is here and its busy at Saheli headquarters. This January news update highlights developments since the October fundraiser.
An update on the fundraiser
- With funds raised, Saheli supported a survivor of domestic violence, paid college tuition to a woman who has almost completed her degree ($2000)
- Obtained Massachusetts court records of domestic violence for a woman abandoned in India ($250)
- Saheli obtained an office space in Stoneham, thanks to the generosity of Drs. Rajendra and Geeta Trivedi
- Saheli gained the support of 19 Friends of Saheli, thanks to the organizing skills of Rakesh Kamdar.

- SAHELI congratulates the newly appointed board of directors. The election was held in the new Stoneham office on January 22nd,2011.
- Saheli's new group in Shrewsbury is very active with a variety of planned programs, and looking for your participation, contact rekhasuri@yahoo.com
- Saheli appoints a new part-time domestic violence advocate to assist with 22 current and ongoing South Asian cases.
- Free Computer Literacy classes in Waltham Public Library Wednesday evenings 6-8 pm, now going on. For more information Deepika.Madan@verizon.net

Some highlights of events coming up:
- New Advisory Board members and interested volunteers, meet in February to define new Saheli projects, fundraising activities, grant writing, publicize the mission of Saheli and seek new community volunteers
- Saheli fund raising committee meets to plan September fundraiser, please join the dynamic women on this team with your ideas
- Saheli offers information on being a domestic violence advocate, training provided by Manavi of New Jersey. Now accepting applications for event tentatively set for April 2011. Free
- Saheli offers free training on financial literacy for all ages, now accepting applications for training tentatively scheduled in March. Free
- Saheli continues health survey at Satsang, Shishu Bharati, IAGB and other community venues. We are looking for your help for this one-day-only task.If you can help us at your community gathering please contact gouri.banerjee@gmail.com
- We seek panelists for a health symposium in March - cardiology, diabetes presenters are sought. Results of Saheli survey will be presented. Volunteers to organize event, space and help with publicity are being sought.
- Saheli seeks volunteers for computer literacy classes in Cambridge, support group and English language classes in Burlington.
